Laurel is a business broker at LINK Business Broking in Ellerslie and has been business broking for twelve years.

Laurel has owned and been involved in a variety of businesses throughout her working career. With her husband David, McCulloch’s started one of NZ’s first home-grown franchise brands, Arano. They developed this into a nationwide franchise and after 20 years sold it. Laurel has also spent time on the board of the New Zealand Franchise Association in recent years, putting something back to the industry she has been so involved in. Along with selling stand-alone businesses (manufacturing to retail and more), Laurel also specialises in the sales and recruitment of franchised businesses. Brands such as Domino's, Palmers Gardenworld, Palmers Planet, Sierra, Muffin Break, Pit Stop, Para Rubber, Target Hypermart, Jamaica Blue, NZME and more.

Using her practical knowledge of being a Franchisor and her daily contact with many systems, Laurel also writes articles for publications and gives seminars about preparing, selling and buying into franchised businesses. Laurel makes a point of getting to know her vendors and their businesses, to enable her to sell and market the business with clarity. Understanding the process in particular with selling a franchised business is important to get the right result at the end!

Laurel enjoys helping purchasers, vendors and franchisors, with all that it entails, to purchase, sell or recruit for their businesses. It’s all about finding the right way of presenting a business, explaining what it’s about, putting the right people together and getting the best price for all concerned.

Testimonials

Rebecca Purdy, Director
Laurel from LINK took care of the sale of my business, in my case my business had low barriers to entry, no real fixed overheads just a lot of goodwill and some long term clients. A tricky business to sell, Laurel made the process a lot smoother for me, as selling a business can be fraught with all kinds of unheard of hurdles. We sold (eventually) to our first buyer, Laurel managed the process between seller and buyer with patience and kept a steady hand when the waters got rough.

Selling a business is not an easy process, however if you are looking for someone who can help you through this then I’d recommend Laurel McCulloch.

Shaynne Hayward, Director

In March of this year we decided to sell our business and have a complete lifestyle change.

We attempted to sell it ourselves and while we got a fairly good response we failed to get an actual deal over the line so we enlisted the help of Laurel.  We had heard of her by word of mouth and liked the idea that she was a local resident of St Heliers as well.

The process of selling was a little more difficult because my husband was running the actual business in St Heliers so he got to talk to Laurel face to face. But I was already living in our new town and doing the office work from there so the only contact I had with Laurel was by phone or email.

This didn't make any difference at all.  Right from the start I know Peter found Laurel very easy to deal with and to talk to and this was exactly the same for me dealing with her from the other end.  We both felt comfortable with her.

Laurel kept us both informed all the way through no matter how minor the information was.

The sale of our business proved to be no easy task in the end due to very slow economic times. Laurel had to really work hard for the resulting successful sale.  There were a lot of parties involved and this made the process even more difficult to bring everything together including working with several different nationalities.

I can say without any doubt at all that Laurel went way beyond her duties as a business broker for us and did absolutely everything she possible could to get us a deal.  She even helped the purchasers in all sorts of different ways and while this may sound very unusual, after all, we are her clients, this unusual approach definitely made the deal happen for us.

I have absolutely no hesitation in recommending Laurel to anyone.
