Laurel is a business broker at LINK Business Broking in Ellerslie and has been business broking for fourteen years.
Laurel has owned and been involved in a variety of businesses throughout her working career. With her husband David, McCulloch’s started one of NZ’s first home-grown franchise brands, Arano. They developed this into a nationwide franchise and after 20 years sold it. Laurel has also spent time on the board of the New Zealand Franchise Association in recent years, putting something back to the industry she has been so involved in. In 2017 she was made a Life Member of the Association in recognition of her involvement and contribution to the industry.
Along with selling stand-alone businesses (manufacturing, service, retail and more), Laurel also specialises in the sales and recruitment of franchised businesses. Brands such as Domino's, Palmers, Sierra, Muffin Break, Pit Stop, Para Rubber, Target Hypermart, Jamaica Blue, NZME and more.
Using her practical knowledge of being a Franchisor and her daily contact with many systems, Laurel uses this experience to help both Franchisors and new franchisees in the often long process of buying or selling a franchised business. Laurel makes a point of getting to know her vendors and their businesses, to enable her to sell and market the business with clarity. Understanding the process in particular with selling a franchised business is important to get the right result at the end! Laurel also writes articles for publications and gives seminars about preparing, selling and buying into franchised businesses.
Laurel enjoys helping purchasers, vendors and franchisors, with all that it entails, to purchase, sell or recruit for their businesses. It’s all about finding the right way of presenting a business, explaining what it’s about, putting the right people together and getting the best price for all concerned.
