Is Hospitality Right for Me?

A Brave New Hospitality World

We are all about to enter a brave new world. There was life before Covid-19 and then there is life after Covid-19.  Only time will tell whether there are great differences between those two time periods, but some things are for certain.  The sun will still shine, and social media will be filled with all sorts of weird and wonderful things. Most importantly, however, there will forever be the nation’s passion for coffee!

The hospitality industry (as a collective) has had its toughest period in history.  The industry will emerge somewhat reshaped, but emerge it most definitely will and emerge victorious!

A Good Industry to be Part Of?

Simply, the answer is yes! It is one of the most fun and dynamic sectors of the economy and one that is worth some $11bn to the country each year.

It’s diverse as well. From small hole-in-wall kiosks selling just one type of item to vast hospitality groups that straddle the length and breadth of the country. There are lunch bars and suburban cafes and wedding venues and fine dining restaurants and new world gastronomic concepts.  There are all day diners and gastro bars and food trucks.  There are burger joints and taco stands and fast food empires. Diverse it certainly is!

It’s fun too. You’d be hard-pressed to find a more sociable industry to be a part of. It’s not just a job, it’s a lifestyle. Like it or not you will make friends and lots of them.

Follow Your Passion

Like anything in life, it helps to be passionate about what you are doing. That doesn’t mean that you need to have the knife skills of Marco Pierre White or be able to identify the single origin of a particular coffee bean from the smallest of sips, but you do need to have a passion for people and a general love of food or wine or coffee or all 3!  It certainly beats making ‘widgets’ for a living, in my opinion!

Do I Need Experience?

That rather depends on what you are wanting to do!  There are so many choices within the hospitality sector and most buyers actually have very little or no experience in the industry!

Many will start with a Franchise business where there is a framework of support and full training is given. Many others choose the ‘independent’ path and learn as they go!  Normally you have some excellent staff who understand how to do all the operational stuff backwards.  Your job, after all, is to ensure that your business runs smoothly and successfully.

There’s Something For Everyone

Whether you are wanting to invest your hard-earned $1m into your life-long dream hospitality project or merely wanting to start with a $50,000 espresso kiosk there are choices galore! We have enormous experience in helping people find the right business.

Check out our listings (we have over 750 hospitality choices!) and chat to your local and favourite LINK Hospitality Broker. We’re here to help!
